After a one to one meeting at the Presidential Palace between Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akıncı and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu a joint press conference was held.
Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akıncı said that he was determined to find the best settlement resolution in Cyprus and described his vision for Cypruss future. Akıncı also thanked Çavuşoğlu and expressed his hopes that these contributions to the negotiation process would continue.
Çavuşoğlu followed Akıncı and said that Turkey was “now even more eager to contribute to the comprehensive settlement in Cyprus” than when it had fully supported the previously proposed settlement, The Annan Plan. Çavuşoğlu also praised both sides for their determination pushing forward with the Peace Talks and wishes for this to continue.
Çavuşoğlu also said “We were very pleased with the recent developments and that the two leaders have agreed to meet twice a month. The decision for the negotiators to meet more often is also a very good one. Seeing that both Mr Akıncı and Mr Anastasiades are demonstrating strong will for solution increased our hopes for a comprehensive, sustainable and just settlement”
He noted that Turkey’s support of the Turkish Cypriot community will continue in every aspect and that Turkey’s main focus in this is on the negotiations between the two sides.
When asked a question concerning the removal of guarantorships, Çavuşoğlu said that no good would be brought to the process by the duscussal of this at this Stage. The international conference between the 5 parties (TC side, GC side, Turkey, Greece, UK) that will be held at the end of the negotiation process, will address this issue.Go Back
