In the UN-brokered Cyprus peace process, leaders of the Turkish and Greek Cypriots, Mustafa Akinci and President Anastasiades met yesterday for the second time this month. They acknowledged the constructive and careful efforts of their negotiators since the meeting on 1st September and discussed the status of the ongoing negotiations across chapters over the last four months. Progress was reviewed in order to create conditions for comprehensive convergences to be focused on at an intensive pace while the divergences can be dealt with in further negotiations. The leaders agreed to increase the frequency of future meetings and intensify their work, while President Anastasiades noted that this may be premature due to there also being problems “which are not of the kind that can be considered easily solvable”. They will meet again on 12th and 30th October 2015.
