Peace Water (Baris Suyu) project has reached our shores

North Cyprus Properties

Last Friday (already a major religious holiday for the Muslim population – Kurban Bayram) another cause for celebration throughout the TRNC was announced by the Turkish daily newspaper Milliyet.

The first water transfer from Turkey to North Cyprus was successfully completed via a 107 kilometre long pipeline.

This pipeline, a global first, will be transporting 75 million cubic metres every year to the newly constructed dam in the village of Gecitkoy in Northern Cyprus.

This exciting development will facilitate the development of agriculture and cover the needs of the occupied areas for the next 50 years while increasing investment potential in all sectors.

The Environment Minister Kutlu Evren spoke of a ‘miracle’ and said that ‘with this Baris Suyu (Peace Water) project  , we can supply water to the Greek Cypriots as well’

The official inauguration of the ‘project of the century’ will take place on October 28th, with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan attending.

At present the water will flow out to the Kyrenia shores washing out the pipes in preparation for the next stages of the project.
