If you visit Kyrenia you will be spoilt for choice as the harbour front is literally saturated with restaurants of all kinds. However, quantity does not necessarily always mean quality and you may wish to take advantage of our Evergreen recommendations – tried and tested over years!
First choice in Kyrenia for cuisine is definitely Niazi’s. Niazi’s was first established in 1949 in Limassol in South Cyprus. It soon became famous and well known among British Forces personnel. In 1967 Niazi`s moved to Limassol and served there until 1974 where it became famous island-wide. In 1974, it relocated to its present building in Kyrenia. Niazi’s created the concept of charcoal grilled kebabs with accompanying mezes, known as “The full kebab”. This is a restaurant with international reputation. Niazi's now operates four branches in Kyrenia and Nicosia. The only downside with Niazi’s is that it is always crowded and lacks a certain intimate atmosphere.
All Kyrenia restaurants are easily accessed by owners at Mountain Village.
If it is intimate atmosphere and traditional yet five star surroundings and service you desire, then there is only one choice – Bellapais Gardens. Choose a table by the window for unprecedented cliff top views of the Mediterranean – you could almost paraglide from here! After your meal retire to comfy chairs by the open log fire (in winter). Prices are reasonable, with a main course costing from £10. There is an associated hotel with this restaurant. Owners at Bellapais Spring Village will find this a convenient local delight!
East of Kyrenia
Lacking the astounding backdrop of the Bellapais Gardens yet still with romantic atmosphere, if you want to experience high class dining during your stay in Northern Cyprus, then visit the Patina Restaurant.
This Restaurant is situated east of Kyrenia and is one of the finest on the Island. It offers stunning international cuisine, some of which is unique in Cyprus. The restaurant itself is set in beautiful surroundings; access it off the main Kyrenia to Esentepe Road.
The Joya Bar and Bistro at Crystal Bay Marina. Located at Bahceli, five minutes past the Esentepe turning on the main coast road, this restaurant is fast gaining an island-wide reputation as offering “gourmet heaven” – with clients driving half an hour from Kyrenia just to sample the chef Gengis’ culinary delights! Sit at a romantic candlelit table – in the summer these are outside by the floodlit turquoise pool, with the Five Finger Mountains rising up behind. There is a great lunch menu and special evening menu – and the staff are always happy to accommodate any special dietary requests. Owners at Crystal Bay properties find it hard to eat anywhere else!
West of Kyrenia
Messina Restaurant comes highly recommended in Karaoglanoglu. Seafront location, excellent prices, and fantastic service – this is well worth a visit.
Joya Bar and Bistro. Further on, near Guzelyurt (50 minutes from Kyrenia, near to the border to the South on the way to the Troodos), visit the Joya Bar and Bistro at Aphrodite Beachfront Village on the beachfront at Gaziveren. You will see signs to the restaurant off the Guzelyurt to Lefke Road. The menu is varied, including local, Turkish and European dishes. Dine at a table overlooking uninterrupted sea and stunning Troodos Mountain views. Whilst you are there, enjoy a dip in the pool or in the sea – the restaurant is literally on the beach!
This restaurant is the sister restaurant of the Joya Bar and Bistro, above, at Crystal Bay Marina, and forms the heart of the Aphrodite Beachfront Village, but is always open to non-residents.
